I have Crohns disease. I have had it for at least 4 years and 2 year since I was officially diagnosed. This book is a complete joke for those desperate for help finding something they can eat. First of all nobody who has Crohn's can't tolerate the huge amounts of tomatoes and onion that are in the majority of the recipes. I can assure you chill powder would put me in the hospital. Who would even consider these toxic ingredients. I would love to eat pizza and chili along with Mountain Dew but it would be more humane to just shoot me.
The only part of this book geared towards issues with IBS is the introduction. A significant number of these recipes contain nightshades (i.e. tomato and pepper) which cause gut inflammation. Disappointed.
If you have Crohn's, like me, you can buy this book.If you don't have Crohn's, you can buy this book.Since Crohn's reacts differently for each individual it's hard to say whether you'll benefit from this book, or not.In reviewing the recipes I find that a lot of them are meals I've already prepared and ingest regularly. However, as with any cook book you will find new ideas to try out. Having knowledge of what makes you flare up can help you avoid some of the ingredients - there's no magic, here, but, it's a good book. It's written in plain language and starts with the story of how the author was diagnosed with Crohn's - with humor included.
This cookbook has assorted recipes that look good but nothing that is particular to feeding a person with ulcerative colitis. It includes many foods that the dietitian said were bad choices, such as fresh tomatoes. I was hoping for ideas of how to make plain foods interesting but didn't find them.
The introduction is what I liked most about this book. What I was disappointed in was the content. My grandson (9 years old) was recently diagnosed with Crohns Disease. I was looking for a cookbook that would guide me and his family through the process of what we can fix for him to eat. The recipes are definitely not geared toward those who are new to the disease. There are just too many ingredients that my grandson is not allowed at this point. All in all, it's just a regular cookbook to me which is an opinion shared by my daughter-in-law after she read through it. I truly can't recommend it for a Crohns sufferer.
Being able to use recipes and readily available ingredients for Chrones disease
In our family, we have individuals with celiac weaknesses and a newly diagnosed case of Crohn's, so this book gives our family cooks a broad variety of options that work for a number of ailments. Lavish illustrations, easy to follow instructions, and tastey dishes abound. Highly recommended!
