#372,816 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

If you're very religious or very conservative, this book is probably not for you.The blurb on the product page is pretty misleading. It makes it seem like a suspenseful psychological thriller which this is not. This book isn't bad for what it is- a silly horror-type novel. I finished it and even sought out other books by the author.

Those looking for the thriller the cover art and copy promise should look elsewhere. This book is an apocalyptic horror story which reimagines the end times with a demure college student in the role of antichrist. Borrowing from THE OMEN and ROSEMARY'S BABY, it's an enjoyable summer beach read with engaging characters and a page-turning, if a bit on the preposterous side, plot.

This book has an interesting take on the reality of religion and it's capacity to create a blind cult following. I'm glad I read it.

John Manning is new to the thriller fiction genre, at least to me. A quick check fails to reveal titles other than the newly published ALL THE PRETTY DEAD GIRLS written under that name. Yet his mastery of plot, characterization and pacing demonstrates a level of storytelling beyond that of a debut novelist. I have my own guesses as to who the John Manning behind the book might be; regardless of whether I am right or wrong, this is a thriller worthy of the name from beginning to end.ALL THE PRETTY DEAD GIRLS centers on Sue Barlow, an incoming freshman at Wilbourne College in upstate New York. Wilbourne is an exclusive private college that has a small student body, primarily made up of women, and has existed for two centuries just outside the quiet town of Lebanon. Barlow, raised by her extremely wealthy grandparents in Manhattan, has had a somewhat cloistered upbringing, despite her cosmopolitan residence. While she initially welcomes the opportunity to be on her own, something about Wilbourne makes her uneasy. There is an oppressiveness that permeates the college, one that is made manifest by its strict curfew rules. Barlow also believes that she repeatedly sees the face of a young woman, screaming, in one of the dormitory windows.Barlow's uneasiness gives way to outright panic when another student vanishes and is feared to have been murdered. Miles Holland, the sheriff investigating the disappearance, soon discovers that Wilbourne has been the site of similar incidents involving young women that have occurred every 20 years or so, yet all of the townspeople seem to forget. Worse, the town in general and the school dean in particular appear to be generally unconcerned about its sordid history. It is all the more ironic that Perry Holland, Miles's son and a deputy sheriff, is the first person to meet Barlow when she arrives in Lebanon, for it is Barlow who unwittingly holds the key to what has been happening in the town. Further, her arrival will begin a chain reaction of events that will fulfill prophecy and potentially unleash chaos not only upon the small town in upstate New York, but also upon the entire world. The key to stopping these events lies with an unlikely girl: Bernadette de Salis, who, on the cusp of adolescence, has experienced the stigmata --- the physical manifestation of the wounds of the crucified Christ --- contemporaneous with a visitation from the Blessed Mother. Bernadette, a professor from the college who has studied such appearances, and an enigmatic priest from the Vatican are aligned against the forces of darkness. Yet the key to the defeat of the power about to be unleashed ultimately lies within the very source of it: Sue Barlow herself. While ALL THE PRETTY DEAD GIRLS is a somewhat long novel, one cannot help but fly through it. Manning's narrative talents are such that the pages seem to turn by themselves. He has a cinematic vision that causes the action to leap off of the pages, so that it reads almost like a movie for the mind. And while he runs the risk of alienating readers with his political characterizations, those seeking nothing more than a good story well told will look past that to the solid bedrock of his plot and the mystery that underlies it.

This book was NOT at all what I expected. I was thinking it would be a run-of-the-mill thriller - the type with a plot that I can write in my sleep. I assumed it would feature the usual: torture, rape, and a sicko psycho predator stalking coeds because of some hideous compulsion that would be detailed in the novel. Be warned - there is murder, but the story itself is not about a psychopath attacking and murdering young girls at this private college in the Northeast - it's about the Book of Revelations and the Antichrist and satanic worship. So if you're looking for a typical suspense thriller, this book isn't what you're wanting. If, however, you want a fast paced story with a heroine you're not sure you like - this is your book. You'll find a fast paced read that might keep you up far too late at night. Enjoy!

I read MANY different types of books. But will NOT continue reading anything that has the GD word in it. Hate that word no purpose in including it in ANY book. Books can b written without. Wouldnt read this after seeing this word. My choice my opinion. Not happening. Have WAY to much love and respect for God to read it.

All the Pretty Dead Girls is more of a horror story and I do not like horror stories. I was in a situation that I had alot of free time so, of course, I took that book as my new serial killer book. Imagine the shock when I realized I had a different kind of book. If I had not been trapped with only one book I would have thrown it away. I had the choice of reading it or counting tiles on the floor. Relucently I started it. After the second chapter I was hooked. I have just finished it, enjoyed it, and am looking for another by him. What a surprise and I have learned a lesson.

Got this book originally for a friend.thought I should read it first..glad I did bc she would have hated it --it's not a mystery thriller.Started off choppy. Some predictability. Some twists. Some editing errors. But overall, it was a quick read, story for the most part, kept my interest. Can't say it's a new favorite but I might try another by the author.

Have most of the books in our area and the reviews are great if you like to tent camp, that's what I enjoy. Just because they don't hot showers is a plus(it keeps some of the party types away) besides a river is better anyway.

This is a great book on camping in t;he carolinas, particularly if you just moved here 6 months ago like us. Its very handy and I'm happy to own it.

My friends and I have found many descrepencies with this book. It is great for locating camp sites. I'm just not sure if he has ever been there. It has a lot of good information.

I found this book to be very simple and helpful. It tells just enough without going into great novel length. It offers rating in a side bar on beauty, safety, noise, pets, showers and toilets and such. I've used this book several times and is has been great.

Wish there was a newer version but this one has helped us plan our camping trips well.

Pretty good book! Much more information than any other book I've found. Love that they give personal favorites for different sites in each campground.

I have used the Tent Camping Florida book by this author to the pint where the margins have no more room for notes! It is my tent camping bible when I'm on the road.I also own several other of his books.I am a sales rep and prefer to camp rather than take my chances at some hotels. The books by this author are accurate, insightful and dead on when it comes to giving realistic portraits of the various campgrounds.I especially like them because he points out places you may not be able to locate with a simple internet search, plus gives you the best secluded tent spots!Buy these books with confidence and enjoy the experience of tenting in some of the nicest off-the-beaten-path parks around!

I am a Catholic mom, and I buy a lot of religious books for my young children in attempt to build a home library for me to teach them the faith. In general, the genre is pretty crappy. Either bad theology, illustrations, text, you name it. This book is different. The text is thought provoking but not too complicated for a young child, and not condescending. The illustrations are better than most. I find it is a good conversation starter with my 4 year old, and even gave me some spiritual encouragement. I think it would also be a good book for younger grade schoolers, too. Nice binding on the hardcover. Would make a nice gift for a godchild, etc.

I just received my copy of “Maybe God is Like That Too” in the mail from Amazon today! I LOVE this book! As a Grandma, raising our granddaughter, in the city of Philadelphia, and someone who cares passionately about inviting children and adults to find God in the ordinary moments of life, this book echoes my heart's desire for finding God in our world. I will read it to my grandchildren, my children's Sunday School class and to adults! Thank you, Jennifer Grant!

I love this story. I think it really captures the kinds of things I want my son to know about God, without all the dogma and legalism. Great for unfundamentalist parents

This book just arrived today and I read it straight away to my girls. They loved it and so did I! This is a very sweet story of a young boy who lives with his grandmother and is curious to know where God is in the city. She tells him to look for love, joy, peace and calm, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control and there he will see God. It is delightfully illustrated and would make a great addition to any home or church library!

Love the artwork and the premise of the book: we "see" God in the world and actions of others around us. A great book that encourages children to exemplify the characteristics of God's goodness in the everyday. This book is also helpful for those who grew up in a faith that looks for Santa Claus God-sightings...how He gives them what they want. Grant shows that God is seen through the actions of others in our lives. Missing God in your life? Look around! He may be speaking to you through others!

(Disclaimer: Jennifer is a friend.) I bought this book for my godson, and my mom and I looked through it before giving it to him. It's lovely. It teaches kids to look for signs of God's presence in the world around us, using the famous verse about "the fruit of the Spirit" (love, joy, peace, patience, and so on). When the little boy in the story tries doing this, he can see that God is everywhere. Strongly recommended.

This book is so simple and sweet. We are doing a series on the Fruit of the Spirit for both adults and children in our church, and this book was the perfect addition for the children. My 6 year old and 5 year old both enjoyed it and retained the truth contained within the story. I can't recommend this highly enough!

Such a sweet book. I'm a Christian mom with two little boys and we read many children books about faith and mainly the Jesus Storybook bible. This is easily one of my favorites because it shows a child how they can see God in everyday ordinary moments. It teaches them this through the fruit of the spirit. Joy, patience, peace etc. I love this so much and my sons, 5 and 6 yr olds did too. Honestly this book even made me, a grown adult stop and think about it's message and I still do from time to time. Stop and look at all the beautiful ordinary things in life and you will see God all around.
