I had to pick this book up for a class. Upon opening and reading it, it reads no differently than a Schaum's outline. There are tons of equations yes, but hardly any of it is derived, and there is little to no background information on why any of it is done. If I wanted a Schaum's outline, I would have bought a Schaum's outline book and saved myself $120. Most expensive set of homework problems ever.

This book goes into a lot of depth in the analysis and design of modern devices in Analog IC's. It does not assume anything and gives the reader insight on how all the models are derived (SPICE, HYBRID-PI etc). It goes into excellent detail for dealing with hand calculations which will give you a first order analysis of the circuit in question (with reasonable accuracy).I got my original recommendation from other Amazon reviews (5-Star rating) and I whole-heartedly agree with them. If you are serious about Analog IC design, then this book is a MUST for you. It will not remain on your shelf, I promise!

This text book should form the core for your analog design library. It has been the main text for two graduate level courses I have taken in analog I.C. design. Treats BJT circuits a little more thoroughly than CMOS; but goes in-depth for both. Excellent reference and textbook; but definitely not a self-study guide (and this is the main reason I did not give it 5 stars).

First of all, this book is not a novel, so don't read it when you are tired or bored. You will definitely fall into sleep!This is the book you need to read if you have decided you are going to STUDY Analog. I bought this book because my friend recommended this book as a good analog reference. Later on , it turns out I have two classes use this book as a textbook.This book is not easy to read. But analog itself is not an easy subject. With my professors' guidence, I was able to understand the book. I was amazed that the amount of material I have learned from this book. This book teachs you the material that a lot of other books skips. For example, offset voltage, most of other books will only describe in one or two paragraph. But this book explained in many sections. And offset voltage is a very important concept in Analog field. A lot of other students complained the book covers too much stuff. It has fabrication, which can be one course. It has bipolar, CMOS, which can be course. It has feedback system, which can be another control system class. But these are essential concepts you need to know about analog IC. The title of the book is not

A very, very complete book that is extremely helpful for basic IC design concepts. However, part of the challenge associated with such a broad book is that some of the derivations aren't explained in overwhelming detail. For example, it can be a little annoying to figure out how the author gets from one line to the next when they don't always explicitly state that an approximation was made. The book is also a little short on examples, but the ones that are included are very useful.Finally, my biggest annoyance: The authors *constantly* reference equations and figures that are several (hundred) pages away. This is good for keeping the book to a reasonable size, but it is extremely tedious to look up references from all over the book just to get through a paragraph of explanation. This book has got to be the worst offender I've come across - I doubt there is a single repeated equation or figure in the entire book.Even after those complaints, I'm giving it four stars because of the sheer amount of good, high quality information it contains.

Required reading, I would think, for anyone in the business, or studying to get into the business, of design & development of analog IC's. If you haven't already been introduced to this book, better make it a part of your library.You'll find good stuff on: Large & small signal BJ & MOS transistor models, An informative chap. on IC technology & construction, Good chap. on current mirrors & active loads, Several chaps. on amps. including a detailed analysis of 741, Good info. on frequency response & analysis of IC opamps., Chaps. on feedback & stability of IC opamps, A lot of attention to MOS technology throughout, Loads of transistor equations & useful approximations.Also there's other material which should interest anyone in analog circuit design, including discrete design. There's even an interesting chap. on circuit noise, which for me had been a subject with about as much sex appeal as Thermodynamics.Be forwarned, this isn't for the novice circuit designer. It's a rather rough trudge to make your way through the book. But as far as I'm capable of critically reviewing, this is a very well written book with very few errors (4th edition). There're a few quirks here & there. For example they introduce their own symbols for MOS transistors (as if we don't have enough), over play SPICE as "an integral part of many examples", & make stability analysis witht Bode plots (Bode not credited) more complicated than need be. However, these are trivial when compared to the overall work.I would therefore give the authors a resounding 5 stars. However, I can't do so for the version of the book which I received. I bought the book for self-study purposes. I was very disappointed to find 20 to 40 problems @ the end of each chap., but with NO answers! I assume this is the decision of the publisher. It's one thing not to include problems in a book (as in a thesis or paperback), but quite another to include problems (as in a "textbook") without any answers to those problems.So, look elsewhere first, if you're looking for a self-study aid on the subject.

I pre-ordered this as soon as I knew it was being published, all on the strength of The Martian, which I loved. So now I can tell you that Sophomore Slump is a real thing. Artemis isn't a bad book, it's just not a great book. I'm not sure it's always a good book, but I'm up and down about that.As I was beginning it, The Housemate read me a highly critical review by the AV Club. Most of the review was about how the main character didn't feel like a woman. I felt that was relatively unimportant, that gender wasn't an issue in the story as far as I'd read, and honestly I still feel that way. Weir could have made his protagonist male and changed almost nothing about the narrative. Had this book been about women's issues, I might have felt short-changed, but as it is, this is a pretty standard thriller, and representation is way down on the list of things one expects from this genre.However, irony is ironic. When I picked the book up again after hearing the review, I found that it had been close to being right. Not spot-on, just close. None of the characters had any depth for me, mostly they were interchangeable plot devices. Again, that's standard fare in the genre, so I'm willing to shrug and let it go in spite of the fact that I know Weir can create dimensional characters. But what flummoxed me was that the action sequences were so dull. They were highly technical, and where that worked in The Martian, it does not work here.I found myself racing through those parts to get to the human interactions, which if they didn't have the depth I could have hoped for, were at least more interesting than all the tech stuff. I found myself thinking that someone told Weir that "people loved all that technical stuff in The Martian, so maybe you should do it again, and do more of it." Yeah that worked when it was a single man against the elements and ultimately against technology. But here? It's kind of flat. At least that's how it felt to me.So in the end, while I enjoyed parts of it, those parts proved greater than the whole, and I can't be super enthusiastic the way I was about The Martian. That makes me sad. It doesn't mean I won't read the next thing Andy Weir publishes, but I'm not going to be so quick to pre-order it next time.

At heart there's a fun little romp around a hypothetical moon base and a criminal conspiracy. That part is not so bad.My beefs with the novel are threefold:* The author cannot write a convincing woman, at least not from the woman's own perspective. I've never been a woman, but I have been a teenage boy, and I am pretty sure that adult, straight women spend less time thinking about breasts than a teenage boy. The narrator is obsessed.* The libertarian nuttery runs deep in this sucker. Laws against flammable materials are zealously enforced, but pedophilia is perfectly legal, selling drugs to minors is perfectly legal, and unions are basically just thugs who beat you up if you work without the union. (And yet, for some reason, the most skilled workers refuse to join the unions? because it would mean being paid less? who would join a union to make less money?)* Lastly, the economy makes no sense whatsoever. They use a company scrip for currency (in order to evade all the evil banksters on earth!), and the company scrip is "grams safely landed on the moon." Apparently a delivery boy makes 12,000 grams a month. A beer costs about 25 grams. At one point they disclose that a gram is roughly 1/6th of a dollar. Meanwhile, in the real world, it costs about $13 to get a single gram of material into LEO, to say nothing of a transfer to, or soft landing on, the moon. The entire plot hinges on exporting bulk fiberoptic cable from the moon to the earth at a fabulous profit, somehow? I don't know if the author has ever handled fiber optic cabling. It's not lightweight stuff.

Everyone has to make a living somehow. Even on the moon.Jazz Bashara grew up in Artemis, the moon's only human colony. Tourists flock there for the chance to spend their life's savings on a guided tour of the lunar surface-- which involves wondering about in a high tech hamster ball-- and sampling the local delicacy known as Gunk, a flavored algae no one voluntarily eats a second time. But for the full time residents, Artemis is a small town with the same problems as any community. It's the kind of place where everyone knows everyone. And everyone knows Jazz Bashara is up to no good.Jazz has a brilliant mind, but saw more fit to rebel against her traditional Muslim father than to apply it to her future. At 26, she finds herself the lunar equivalent of an errand girl, living in an apartment the literal size of a coffin, and smuggling contraband from earth just to make ends meet. She dreams of the day she'll have a home she can stand up in, and access to non-communal bathroom, but Artemis is expensive. There's a sharp divide between the haves and have-nots: those who can afford to have an earth standard of living shipped into city and those at the mercy of the natural restrictions of living on the moon.So when one of the wealthiest haves, a sketchy businessman who employs Jazz's smuggling skills on the regular, offers her a huge sum to take out a competing business, she takes him up on it. What starts as a complicated, but doable, task quickly spirals out of control. Jazz soon finds herself in the cross hairs of some powerful enemies and discovers Artemis's dirty secrets.Any expectations I had for this book were purely speculative, because, unlike most of the rest of the world, I have not read The Martian or seen the movie. That said, I was surprised 1/3 of the way through to realize I was reading a lightweight heist novel with some heavy handed commentary on wealth inequality. Yes, it's set on the moon, and the author does not let you forget it, but it's the backdrop to the real issue: Jazz needs money.One of the largest problems of this book is Jazz herself. She's supposed to be a grown woman, but she narrates like a teenage boy. She's as obsessed with her sex life as everyone else in Artemis seems to be, and I have to wonder if author Andy Weir has ever met a woman before. She's also really chatty and familiar with the audience in a way that grates over time:"Getting the contraband to Artemis... well, that's another story. More on that later.""Okay, you can stop pretending you know what a niqab is."The whole book has a very YA vibe to it. It's lightweight and the heist gets a bit ridiculous. I mean, they plan out every detail on an ipad-like device that their enemies have proven to be able to hack, but I digress. Between chapters, we get letters between Jazz and her earth penpal that date back to when they are children, but this has little relevance to the story at large and often feels like filler. And we get moments that read like a bad cable movie:"He's right, Dad. I am an jerk. But Artemis needs a jerk right now and I got drafted."Artemis has it's moments. It's fast paced and often fun. The descriptions of the moon colony, and what life might be like were anyone to attempt settling it, are interesting. But if you're expecting anything more of this than a forgettable caper tale, you might be disappointed.

I waited until I finished the journal before writing a review. Why? Because most such books grab my attention at the start and lose my interest about half-way through. That didn't happen with "Your Brightest Life." I looked forward to my journaling sessions so much that I felt sad when I turned the last page. But then I read Caroline's suggestion to return and tap into the journal again and again. I plan to read through it monthly and see what new insights it brings.My favorite section was "Intention." It begins with the statement that "you control the quality of your day" and continues with the comment that "life is not something that happens to you: YOU go out there and happen to life." Like many of Carolyn's observations, this was powerful and multilayered. As I worked through each exercise in the section, I uncovered another aspect of my ability to "happen to life." I won't go so far as to say that I experienced a revelation, but I certainly gained a new and valuable perspective on how I influence and interact with the circumstances I encounter.I highly recommend "Your Brightest Life" to anyone who is open to a creative, multifaceted journaling experience. And don't be afraid to mess up this beautiful work of art. I let Caroline's art inspire me to make a pretty mess, and I'm better for the experience.

Full Disclaimer - I'll admit that I wanted to like this book. I've followed Caroline online for a couple years and have been super impressed by both her talents and the transparency with which they are showcased. Through that engagement, I've gotten a ton of value.But the book wasn't for me. I bought it for my 18 year old daughter in preparation as she leaves college. I know when I was her age I certainly wasn't thinking about my future in the terms Caroline lays out in the book, but I wanted my daughter to have a shot at doing things differently. Better. That's where it get's good.First, the book is colorful and engaging. It's playful yet complete on many levels. It can be used superficially or in depth- and so far I've been happy to see that she's done a bit of both. She's 18- I don't expect her to have enough life-experience yet to anticipate the challenges ahead of her- but by answering the questions that Caroline has posed- and writing answers she can refer to, I know she'll at least be thinking about the right questions and have a perspective in place that let's her better frame life as it happens.Anyway, I think the book was very well made, and it made for a great gift- not just a journal, but a look down the path towards the life any sane person wants. Hard to do all that and be easy to follow at the same time!

The artwork in this journal is so beautiful, and the content goes as deep (or not) as you want it to go. I was a little surprised at how much verbiage there is and would have preferred a little less, but there's also plenty of room to write, so no problem. All in all, a journal that I love to use. I've given it as a gift to a number of friends, and besides the expected "thank you so much I love it" which might just be the courtesy card, they report later how much they've enjoyed using it. So it goes deeper than just lip service.

I’m sure I’ll have to update this review once I actually complete the journal... but I have to say the experience of flipping through it has already been worth the money. It is a stunningly beautiful piece of art. It’s everything I would expect from the artist/author and more. The color and design detail in every page is worth the purchase price. Masterfully done.

I love the colorful pages the art the gorgeous exciting pages that get you to fill them out and use them. And to be able to bring out our brightest life is even before. I think we could all use that.

I would have ordered this book for the artwork alone, but it turns out the content is pretty great, too! I'm only a few sections in, but already, Caroline has inspired me to take a look at myself in ways I've never considered. Right now, I'm especially loving the section where she asks you to look at the various layers of your life and honestly reflect on how the world sees you, how your closest friends see you, and how you see yourself. It's fun to bring a creative element to self-reflection, and I can't wait to work my way through this journal!If you like this journal, you'll love everything Caroline and her husband, Jason, create. They are some of the most authentic, humble, encouraging, creative people I've ever encountered.

I have not been as excited about a book coming out since the Harry Potter series were coming out. I love everything Caroline creates and this book is like a culmination of all the best things she puts out there. I’m blown away by how much she fit into a 195 page book. I have already read the whole thing and I’m excited to go back in and fill in the unique journal prompts. All of the beautiful color and words will brighten anyone’s day.Side note: the foil on the colorful cover makes me so happy! And on the back, the blurb and barcode is on a removable sticker so I can have a clean design which I really appreciated! It’s the little things. :)

This book is a WIN WIN WIN! I'm so excited to have this for myself and to send it to everybody I know.
